Follow-up Comment #4, bug #52775 (project octave):

"codequoteundirected" is in texinfo 5.0 from February, 2013.  That is nearly 5
years old, the "sortas" command is from February, 2016, so only two years
old.

I've put the question to the Octave Maintainer's list about which version of
Texinfo we want to program to.  This is only an issue for developers.  Users,
including Linux distributions, get the manual as part of the distribution
tarball and don't need Texinfo tools on the computer used to build Octave.
