Thanks jwe for the fix and sorry for the frequent changes.
I set up a virtual box with Windows XP and can confirm the first error. It
looks like the maximum buffer size is one shorter than stated on the MSDN page
(or I mis-interpreted).
@Rik: Before pushing again, could I ask you to please test with the attached
patch? Hopefully for the last time.

The error to the second command is actually expected. There is no default
value for that key. The error message with the patch is a bit more specific.
