Follow-up Comment #23, bug #51950 (project octave):
@Kenneth: you can try to build the mex interface in SuiteSparse/SPQR/MATLAB.
The SPQR library uses 64bit integers, only. Therefore, you have to compile
octave with --enable-64, I guess. See
