Follow-up Comment #33, bug #53520 (project octave): In my opinion the patch from comment #2 should be applied before the 4.4 release. Without it, Java >=9 doesn't work on Windows at all. With it applied, at least some systems seem to behave. I just tried on my work PC (also a Windows 10 64bit): Octave finds the installed Java 9 and can used it (with that patch).
