Follow-up Comment #12, bug #53539 (project octave):

@Mike, if you plan to use any getenv(TZ) in the the gui, be aware that using
setenv() makes also getenv() thread unsave.

The problem is not non-reentrant code but setenv() changes the pointer to the
env-string which can cause getenv() to segfault.
