Update of bug #53737 (project octave):

                  Status:                   Fixed => Confirmed              
             Open/Closed:                  Closed => Open                   
                 Summary: printing to svg gives error and no plot, gnuplot
dumps core => printing to svg gives error and no plot with gnuplot 5.2

Follow-up Comment #9:

I downgraded to gnuplot 5.0.3 and I can confirm that the same expression works
perfectly with Octave 4.3.91. With gnuplot 5.2 it aborts with the error
message shown and the svg file is empty.
