Details:

using the SHA1 function from the general package with octave 4.4, using the
SHA1 function crashes octave.

ie:

SHA1(uint8("hello'))


The current code there looks to be a steal of some public algorithm on a
website that lo longer exists, so rather than having all that code, it would
probally be far easier to use an existing library that does the algorithm,
usch as nettle.
