Follow-up Comment #12, bug #54235 (project octave):

"I made some changes and generated a new configure file which is attached to
this bug report as configure.gz. Could you rename your existing configure,
then gunzip configure.gz, then run ./configure as you normally would? It would
be nice if you could capture the output of the configure run and upload it."

OK, I ran that but it didn't get very far:
