Follow-up Comment #7, bug #54572 (project octave):

Hold on, wrong type; I chose uint64, not int64...  OK, that's better:

octave:2> intmin ('int64') - 1
I am in INT_DOUBLE_BINOP_DECL (-, int64)
x = -9223372036854775808
(-y) = -1
ans = 9223372036854775807
octave:3> intmin ('int64') - int64 (1)
ans = 9223372036854775807

but notice that the variation you inquired about doesn't go into that routine.
 So this is happening somewhere else, maybe after the macro instantiation?
