Follow-up Comment #23, bug #55029 (project octave):

Sorry -- I was applying the patch to stable...
It applied fine to dev, but behaviour got even worse, 
now the typed chars only show up on the second try (i.e.
typing "x" after pause would not show up anything, typing
"x" again would show up "x" etc... Ctrl-C returns to 
octave prompt).
