Follow-up Comment #18, bug #53091 (project octave):

Out of curiosity, has Matlab completely removed the use of the "*" placeholder
or can it still be used to name _The default font_ (that) _depends on your
operating system and locale_ [1]?
For example

ht = text (0, .5, '<cs;hfjnvrnq vklnroirg!:k,ncv lj',
           'fontsize', 30)
ext1 = get (ht, 'extent');
set (ht, 'fontname', '*');        % Is this still allowed?    
all (ext1 == get (ht, 'extent'))  % Same size? same aspect?
get (ht, 'fontname')              %'*' or 'Helvetica'
