Follow-up Comment #25, bug #47680 (project octave):

You are right, I should have better said "must error to be compatible with
Matlab" (what this bug report is about).

Personally, I don't need this error.  As you say, it is not used, thus cannot
do any harm.  Maybe Matlab only errors because of the internal ways to handle
such calls.

If one day Octave has a Linter, it could issue a warning about this
circumstance...
