Follow-up Comment #9, bug #56143 (project octave):
Can the hang on startup problem still happen if you start Octave with the
--no-line-editing option? Disabling readline is not a real solution, but it
could tell us if the problem really is due to attempting to write to the
terminal at the wrong time.
