Follow-up Comment #2:

I can't reproduce the issue. I see the two figures getting drawn and
disappearing quickly as expected. I am testing using self compiled dev branch
(9326c2258e60) against Qt-5.9.5 and also using the Nouveau opengl driver on an
NVidia (GeForce GT 520) graphics card:

Can you give more details about how you installed Octave.
