Details:

I installed octave-5.1.0-w64 with the installer. 

Prior to that I installed JRE version 1.8.0_221.


The Octave CLI seems to run fine, but when I try to run the GUI the window
opens for about 1 second, and then closes.   When I installed octave
originally just last week, it was working fine, so possibly a very recent
windows update could be the issue (?).

I checked in the Windows Event Viewer and found this error message (pointing
to an issue in ntdll.dll)
