Follow-up Comment #2, bug #57124 (project octave):
Thanks Mike, unfortunately, the (re-)install threw a crash
I'll just add a correction to my original post - the Debian version is testing
which I think is Bullseye.
Prior to receiving your email, I reverted to octave 4.4.1 and that ran.
I re-ran install, this time under script to grab a copy of the output,
hopefully that file is attached and readable
