I think that nullptr change is fine.

Tests okay on my macOS 10.14.6 machine: I can build from default, it runs, and
pause() doesn't seem to slow down now, in either terminal or GUI.

You know what, now that it's a static function, and not inside the "namespace
octave { ... }", should it be indented inside the "#if defined (Q_OS_MAC)"?
I'm thinking probably not.

It's on my TODO list to make a macOS 10.15 VM and start testing stuff there
too, but that will take a little time.
