Your change does unfortunately not fix the issue
octave:1> __octave_config_info__ hg_id
ans = 8600f5ea1ec1
octave:2> graphics_toolkit gnuplot
octave:3> clear all
octave:4> plot (randn (5))
fatal: caught signal Segmentation fault: 11 -- stopping myself...
Segmentation fault: 11
But I agree with Rik that it is a nice change anyway, I'll
get a new stack trace to see if anything has changed there.
