Follow-up Comment #15, bug #57399 (project octave): Good illustration of the differences. It looks like the diagonals in Matlab's triangulation result are all oriented in the same direction. In Octave, the diagonals seem to be oriented more randomly. Is there a reason for this? Other than that: I don't know why one of the triangulation results should be more valid than the other.
