Follow-up Comment #32, bug #41298 (project octave):

Thanks again for testing.
I think some action in mxe-octave is required to get the test files in the
arch-dependent subdir. Apparently pkg.m is bypassed when building the binary
packages? Or is an installed and up-to-date Linux Octave installation required
to do help here?
