: From their doc [1], I understand that changing the "horizontalalignment"
just changes the way multiline strings are layout in the box, not the position
of the text relative to the arrow (that is also how Octave works). But TBH, I
have never really understood what "verticalalignment" can mean in this
context, and it thus have no effect in Octave. I think the code for
determining the "best" anchor for the text works quite well (see annotation
4). We probably just need to displace the text a bit, as ML seems to do.

: this one is probably partly due to Octave displaying fonts smaller on-screen
than in printout. See bug #45600

Comment #27: 
Yeah, this definitely deserves a separate bug report for a big project. This
will probably involve switching to modern OpenGL and using shaders for better
control of color interpolation.
