Then next I think about the file position manipulation to fail.  How about
this programs?

Program 1 (File write and read in separate operations):

f = tempname ();
fid = fopen (f, "w+");
fprintf (fid, "1\n2\n3\n4\n5\n6");
fclose (fid);
fid = fopen (f, "r+");
c = textscan (fid, "%f %f", 2);
E = feof (fid);
fclose (fid);
unlink (f);
assert (! E);

Program 2 (fgets instead of textscan):

f = tempname ();
fid = fopen (f, "w+");
fprintf (fid, "1\n2\n3\n4\n5\n6");
fseek (fid, 0, "bof");
str = fgets (fid);
disp (str);
fclose (fid);
unlink (f);
