Follow-up Comment #35, bug #57439 (project octave): Or, can you try this one instead? It removes most of the calls to canonicalize_file_name and replaces the rest with make_absolute. I think the end result should be performance that is close to what we had before I tried to fix this bug. If not, then please let me know how bad it is for you and I'll keep trying.
