Follow-up Comment #12, bug #57591 (project octave):

On the buildbot (still fedora 31):

gcc -v
Using built-in specs.
COLLECT_GCC=/usr/bin/gcc
COLLECT_LTO_WRAPPER=/usr/libexec/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/9/lto-wrapper
OFFLOAD_TARGET_NAMES=nvptx-none
OFFLOAD_TARGET_DEFAULT=1
Target: x86_64-redhat-linux
Configured with: ../configure --enable-bootstrap
--enable-languages=c,c++,fortran,objc,obj-c++,ada,go,d,lto --prefix=/usr
--mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info
--with-bugurl=http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla --enable-shared
--enable-threads=posix --enable-checking=release --enable-multilib
--with-system-zlib --enable-__cxa_atexit --disable-libunwind-exceptions
--enable-gnu-unique-object --enable-linker-build-id
--with-gcc-major-version-only --with-linker-hash-style=gnu --enable-plugin
--enable-initfini-array --with-isl --enable-offload-targets=nvptx-none
--without-cuda-driver --enable-gnu-indirect-function --enable-cet
--with-tune=generic --with-arch_32=i686 --build=x86_64-redhat-linux
Thread model: posix
gcc version 9.3.1 20200408 (Red Hat 9.3.1-2) (GCC)
[dima@i7 ~]$ cat /etc/redhat-release
Fedora release 31 (Thirty One)

clang -v
clang version 9.0.1 (Fedora 9.0.1-2.fc31)
Target: x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
Thread model: posix
InstalledDir: /usr/bin
Found candidate GCC installation: /usr/bin/../lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/9
Found candidate GCC installation: /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/9

Candidate multilib: 32;@m32
Selected multilib: .;@m64

On CentOS
gcc version 8.3.1 20190507
clang version 8.0.1 (Red Hat 8.0.1-1.module_el8.1.0+215+a01033fb)

The problem did not manifest itself with 5.x release (at least not as obvious
and quite reproducible as it now).

I think many people do not see that problem very often, because they do
incremental re-build that does not re-make the docs.

Dmitri.
