Follow-up Comment #37, bug #55225 (project octave):

I'm not sure how write caching works on Linux. But I suppose that it is
dependent on (parallel) disc access.

I can't reproduce the issue even for very high numbers of parallel jobs. When
I check the write cache with hdparm, I see the following:

$ sudo hdparm -W /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 write-caching = not supported


Is this the same for you?
Could you try disabling the write for the drive that holds your tmp directory
and see whether that makes any difference?
Not sure if this is the right command:

sudo hdparm -W0 /dev/sda
