Follow-up Comment #1, bug #58706 (project octave):
For reference, Matlab does not support webP so this would be an Octave-only
extension. For the time being, a path forward would be to export to an
supported image format (such as png) and then use a converter from that format
to webp. There are even free online converters (one example,
https://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-webp).
Also, this seems to be a Google-promoted format. There's nothing wrong with
that, but it is just one company's particular idea of what they would like to
see.
