Follow-up Comment #18:

Okay, agreed.  I made another clean test on a Java free MS Windows 10 system
and for JDK 15 there is indeed no setting of the system PATH variable
necessary to use Java from within Octave.

I updated the latest documented installation attempt in Discourse

Your patch (file #49937) looks good to me.  All registry paths would match
with my system.  Maybe just go ahead an apply it ("damage" is minimal in MS
Windows only), then I can test it tomorrow, when my Buildbots finished 😉
