[Slightly OT]
Maybe this also explains crashes I've been seeing for years at work, where for
groundwater model input a large sparse matrix is multiplied with an equally
large diagonal one; same behavior. The invocation itself is correct *and* has
been working with Matlab for over a decade.
That crash is one of the main showstoppers when I tried to persuade my
colleagues try Octave instead of Matlab. So, perhaps my Core i5 at home
doesn't match the (older) dual Xeons at work.
I should have tried with ref BLAS ... (will do)
