URL: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?59387> Summary: Change default codepage of text editor to UTF-8 on Windows Project: GNU Octave Submitted by: mmuetzel Submitted on: Sat 31 Oct 2020 12:09:18 PM CET Category: Interpreter Severity: 3 - Normal Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Matlab Compatibility Status: None Assigned to: None Originator Name: Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: dev Discussion Lock: Any Operating System: Microsoft Windows _______________________________________________________ Details: Bug #49685 originally had this title. But it drifted into a different direction and has since been closed. Starting with Matlab R2020a, the default encoding used for .m files in Matlab on Windows is UTF-8: https://de.mathworks.com/help/matlab/release-notes.html?category=desktop&rntext=File+encoding&startrelease=R2017b&endrelease=R2020b&groupby=release&sortby=descending&searchHighlight=File+encoding The main argument against switching to UTF-8 as the default encoding for .m files on Windows was compatibility with Matlab on the same platform. With the recent change, I guess that argument is no longer valid. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?59387> _______________________________________________ Message sent via Savannah https://savannah.gnu.org/
