Follow-up Comment #4, bug #60784 (project octave):

Looking at libinterp/corefcn/eig.cc, it contains the test


  if (! arg_a.isfloat ())
    err_wrong_type_arg ("eig", arg_a);


and isfloat is only true for single or double objects.  I'll bet that's a very
old check?  Anyway, if it is removed, eig will work because the rest of the
function allows conversions if possible.
