Details:

For Octave 8, `error_state` will finally be removed after years of it not
being set to anything other than 0.

This leads to a different branch being compiled in `error-helpers.h`. IIUC,
that branch misses a change that was already done in the other code path.

I'll upload a possible patch as soon as I'll have a bug number.
