Follow-up Comment #4, bug #62682 (project octave): I read this doc and it just say "for the best performance". That's not mean "otherwise the result will be incorrect". And x^2+y^2 should be equivalent to x.^2+y.^2, that's definitely a wrong result. Should this be fixed?
