Follow-up Comment #29, bug #62847 (project octave):

Reading comment #26, I'm unsure if we see the same thing. But maybe they are
different manifestations of the same deeper lying issue.

FWIW, the drive mapping script that I run about every year does something
along the lines of mapping e.g., some drive letter 'X:' to
'\\company.local\SomeDir$'
and in the end, in Explorer I see an entry along the lines of
 > SomeDir (X:)
where the '$' character has disappeared. In the drive properties' DFS tab the
original UNC path is shown but with a server name prepended to it.
