Did you see this bug report and the proposed solution (comment #3)?

I'm convinced that the modified functions zp2sos and sos2tf described in
comment #3 (appended files 54164 to 54167) are an appreciable improvement and
need to be included as soon as possible in the next update of the signal
processing package.
