If I might in some small way contribute to Octave, it seems the project needs an icon. How about an infinity symbol, which suggests the 8 of "octave", and mathematics generally, and further implies unlimited possibilities? Feel free to use the attached image which I composed.

I played around with the 3D sine image from the Octave web page, but it's not distinctive enough when shrunk down. Could you send this to address@hidden If some consensus can be reached regarding icons, then we can use the same one for os x, windows, gnome and kde. Right now windows uses an O wrapped around an omega with dots in each corner. I don't care much either way.
