Actually, a variant of this is not unlikely. This would mean that we would have to update our copies of MinGW to something that has a better gcc.

Maybe we could try with MinGW 5.0.2? The installer is finally on the MinGW page. I don't know about msys though. I'm currently preparing two different talks I'm giving in two weeks, I won't have time to look at any of this for about one month. Hopefully David has the time to try it?
