I couldn't find any examples where cut() was being used in the sources. So it 
doesn't appear deprecating cut() would require much work.

However, it appears to have been included in the sources 12 yrs ago.

So, It is possible that many users are using it.

Personally, I like the functionality, and would like to keep it.
