Until the recent num2str incompatibility, it hadn't been necessary, I just briefly pointed out the benefits of open-source. I simply had never found any serious bugs or incompatibilities.
I also point out that they may confidently add "knowledge of Matlab language" to their resumes; this is an important point for them.
