Ben,
This seems to happen pretty frequently to me as well. It isn't tragic, but
the '@' bookmark fails to get updated to the tip.
I just use 'hg book -r tip @' to move the bookmark and then 'hg push' to
send that update back to the main repo.
After that, 'hg update' should bring you to the default bookmark and the
tip which are now synonymous.
