The easiest one is the doxygen documentation. That should
be fairly trivial. Can this be done?

Yes. How can I help make that happen?

I'm not sure if you have permissions to do this. Does the following works?
Doxygen documentation takes approximately 2GB for each release.

I copied the files here:

where VERSION may be 3.2, 3.4, 3.6, 3.8, 4.0, or 4.1.

Here is the disk usage I see:

  $ du --summ --human --tot *
  243M  3.2
  847M  3.4
  619M  3.6
  2.3G  3.8
  2.1G  4.0
  1.6G  4.1
  7.6G  total

I don't think disk usage is a problem though:

  $ df --human .
  Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
  /dev/sdb1       3.6T  745G  2.9T  21% /home
