Follow-up Comment #2, patch #9746 (project octave):
It was perhaps more a proof of concept, motivated by Lars' contributions in
the maintainers ML (IIRC).
Actually it's a bit of a dirty hack; I'm sure there are binary Windows library
functions that return the required info more gracefully.
Anyway, let's keep this open, some time someone will be inspired to make a
better version and maybe even cross-platform.
