FWIW, looks like a good number of them at least, are album covers.  So 
maybe he's using album covers as his source, and the script down-converts 
them to 64x64 at whatever color depth.

That'd be /one/ effective source of /square/ image sources. =:^)

I even saw one that was x-rated...
