I've been using Pan 0.13.x on Solaris 7 occasionally. The only gotcha was that
I had to install libiconv first, then make sure that glib2 was built against it.
IIRC the glib2 configure line resembled (check syntax):
./configure --enable-threads=posix --with-gnu-ld --with-iconv=$HOME/gnome2/
