Sorry to take up bandwidth on an off topic, but perhaps this will
spare a few subscribers from wasting their time and worrying.
I received the following message:

Undoubtedly some viral program picked up my e-mail address and tried
to subscribe me to this group. I assume the request was denied because
the request was infected.
