As far as I know, Pan doesn't support SSL news servers directly. All is
not lost, however. I use Pan to connect to the secure Netscape servers by
way of stunnel. My stunnel.conf looks like this:
client=yes
debug=7
[mozilla]
accept=7000
connect=secnews.netscape.com:563
Then in pan, setup a server of address "localhost" (no quotes), and port
7000 (or whatever you chose).
If you run FreeBSD (as I do), stunnel is in /usr/ports/security/stunnel.
