Ok...I got past my configure problem by using the cvs version and using
autogen.sh...using the tar.gz is not an option and should probably not be
mentioned in the howto..configure worked fine...however in make I'm
getting this error:

If I can resolve this I'll have a working copy of the latest pan compiled
for windows and will be happy to distribute it/support it.  I can also
archive up the development directories to make it easier for others in
future.   Any ideas?
