Duncan Idaho was a Swordmaster (weapons/tactical specialist) while Thufir
Hawat was a mentat. Long story short, injunction against anything remotely
like a computer (thinking machines/AI) human-machine war, specialist people
trained/conditioned for mental computational abilities.

I've not seen much of his non-fiction although I gather that output was higher
than his SF. A prodigious author, not unlike yourself :-)
A bit OT for here but I bet quite a few got the reference :-)
