No luck.  Old-pan used to have a sent messages folder, but there were 
problems with the implementation, and new-pan doesn't.  It does have the 
drafts feature, so you can save a draft before you send if you remember 
to, but you have to remember to.  FWIW I've been hit with this too, and 
yes, it's frustrating.
