You may be surprised to hear that I actually agree with everything you
said :o) I started 'deleting' articles in large binary groups (only)
so long ago that I'd forgotten why I do it.
Now I remember I did it the first time because I needed a bit more
disk space in the middle of downloading a large .iso image and I
was shocked to find that just the *headers* of five binaries groups
took up almost a gig of disk space. I 'deleted' all of the articles
in those five groups and then had enough room to finish the download.
I just got in the habit of doing it, but it really isn't necessary
if you allocate your disk space properly.
I do agree with Duncan that pop-ups which are unneeded 9 times out of
10 really should be voluntary instead of compulsive. The principle
of least irritation should prevail, IMO.
