That has happened ever since I started using Pan a little over a year ago. (I work around it by entering patterns in the Group Name box and viewing unsubscribed groups that way.)
Right after I tried doing an in situ upgrade of Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 to Hardy Heron 8.04, I would get a kernel seg fault every time I tried opening a thread under Pan 0.132. I ended up just blowing away the botched upgrade and did a bare metal re-install.
In terms of the current discussion of the high CPU cycles, I have not seen this with previous versions of xorg. But since the installation of HH8.04, I have consistent high cpu cycling. It seems that this is a known bug in Ubuntu that is related to xorg and the System Monitor. So, it's possible that this is not exclusive to Pan at all. And for what little it's worth, the same high cpu cycling does not appear under Windows XP.
All the best, Kurt
